Parsons Corporation has been awarded a $73 million contract to support software development and modernization efforts for the US Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) under the Global Application Research, Development, Engineering and Maintenance (GARDEM) program.
GARDEM is responsible for developing, deploying, and sustaining mission software used across multiple operational areas, including command and control, space operations, intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR).
The latest award represents Parsons’ fourth GARDEM-related contract in 2026 and increases the company’s total GARDEM contract value this year to approximately $218 million. The agreement further expands Parsons’ involvement in research, engineering, operational support, and sustainment activities for GARDEM 2 enterprise systems.
Accelerating Software Deployment
A key component of the contract involves transitioning GARDEM capabilities into Parsons’ proprietary Lightweight Application Management Platform. The company says the platform is designed to simplify deployment processes, improve software integration, and reduce lifecycle costs associated with mission-critical applications.
According to Parsons, adopting a common software framework will help standardize development efforts, enable more efficient personnel training, improve interoperability between systems, and strengthen surge support capabilities across various GARDEM mission areas.
Program activities will be carried out at multiple operational locations and existing military installations.
Based on previous Department of Defense contracting information, work associated with the GARDEM program is expected to continue through May 2031.
Mike Kushin, President of Defense and Intelligence at Parsons, stated that securing a fourth GARDEM award this year demonstrates confidence in the company’s ability to deliver scalable digital solutions that can adapt to evolving military requirements.
He added that the design philosophy behind GARDEM 2 emphasizes reuse, integration, and rapid adaptation, allowing AFRL and the US Air Force to field advanced data-driven capabilities more quickly while reducing costs and improving operational effectiveness across multiple domains.
Expanding Digital Defense Portfolio
The new award further strengthens Parsons’ position in areas such as artificial intelligence, software engineering, cybersecurity, data analytics, and mission systems integration for US defense customers.
In recent years, the company has secured several major defense-related contracts, including support for next-generation Army research facilities, air defense technology programs, military digital security initiatives, and cybersecurity assessments conducted in cooperation with DARPA.
The latest GARDEM contract highlights the growing importance of software-defined capabilities and digital infrastructure in modern military operations, where rapid deployment of data-driven tools is becoming increasingly critical for mission success.
