Sweden-based defense industry company Saab designed the HEAT 758 to neutralize heavily armored vehicles equipped with Explosive Reactive Armor (ERA).
The HEAT 758 has a tandem warhead; the first charge neutralizes the ERA mounted on the exterior of the armored vehicle and allows the main charge to successfully penetrate the main armor. The main charge is capable of penetrating up to 700 mm of armor, which is sufficient to neutralize even the heaviest armored vehicles.
As tanks equipped with ERA become more widespread on the battlefield, this munition developed by Saab could change the balance. This munition, which could be needed by many armies in ground warfare, will shift the balance.
Tandem warhead munitions like the HEAT 758 prove that active protection layers such as ERA are no longer sufficient on their own. As tank technologies and protection systems rapidly evolve today, it is inevitable that munitions capable of destroying them will also develop. HEAT 758 will rewrite the balance on the battlefield.
