German aerospace company ERC System has introduced a new hybrid-electric unmanned aircraft designed to support military logistics and cargo transport operations.
Named the Victor U250, the platform is capable of carrying payloads of up to 250 kilograms (551 pounds), making it suitable for battlefield resupply, cargo transport, and humanitarian support missions.
The aircraft can transport up to two cargo pallets or conduct aerial delivery operations without the need to land, providing greater flexibility for operations in contested or difficult-to-access areas.
Hybrid-Electric Design
The Victor U250 combines vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL) capability with fixed-wing forward flight, allowing it to operate from locations with limited infrastructure while maintaining the efficiency and range advantages of a conventional aircraft.
Powered by a hybrid-electric propulsion system, the drone can reach speeds of up to 130 knots (241 kilometers per hour / 150 mph) and is capable of flying distances exceeding 300 kilometers (186 miles).
According to ERC, the aircraft has been designed to support a variety of mission profiles, including military resupply operations, disaster relief efforts, and commercial logistics services.
Built on EarliereVTOL Programs
The Victor U250 was developed over an 18-month period and incorporates technologies and design experience gained from the company’s previous projects, including the Romeo heavy-lift demonstrator and the Charlie emergency medical transport aircraft.
Company officials stated that extensive feedback from potential operators played a significant role in shaping the final design, resulting in an aircraft optimized for long-range missions, rapid cruise performance, and flexible operational requirements.
ERC expects initial deliveries to begin in 2028. While defense applications remain a key focus, the company also anticipates demand from civilian sectors such as offshore logistics, coastal transportation, infrastructure support, and operations in remote industrial environments.
Maximilian Oligschläger, Chief Commercial Officer at ERC, said the company remains confident in its development timeline, citing six years of experience producing some of Europe’s largest electrified aircraft. He also emphasized the importance of industrial partnerships in accelerating production and bringing the platform to market.
The Victor U250 reflects the growing interest in heavy-lift autonomous aircraft capable of supporting both military and civilian logistics missions while reducing reliance on traditional transport platforms.
