The US Air Force Special Operations Command (AFSOC) announced the name of the AGM-190A small cruise missile as “Havoc Spear” at the SOF Week 2026 conference.
Havoc Spear is a mass-producible cruise missile with a low-cost, mission-adaptable, and modular design. Its most remarkable feature is the speed of its development process: while typical development periods for defense systems take five to seven years, Havoc Spear completed the design, testing, and combat evaluation phases in less than three years. The missile’s range has been confirmed to be at least 640 kilometers; this makes the AGM-190A a much longer-range option compared to other munitions in the AC-130J Ghostrider’s current weapon inventory.
The name was selected by Secretary of the Air Force Troy Meink, who visited the AFSOC headquarters in November 2025.
