Pakistan’s Multi-Domain Defense Leap: From Deep Sea to Outer Space

The Pakistan Armed Forces have reached a major milestone in their modernization efforts, significantly upgrading their naval, land, and space-based capabilities. The centerpiece of this buildup is the commissioning of the PNS/M Hangor, the lead boat of eight new AIP-equipped submarines. This move triples Pakistan’s advanced submarine force, shifting its naval strategy from mere coastal defense to long-endurance, deep-water offensive operations across the Indian Ocean.

Beyond the sea, Pakistan is prioritizing precision-strike and surveillance:

  • Precision Missiles: The Army has successfully tested the Fatah-II guided missile, while the Navy is integrating the SMASH (a navalized anti-ship ballistic missile) onto its newer surface vessels.
  • Space Intelligence: The launch of the PRSC-EO3 satellite completes Pakistan’s electro-optical constellation, providing the military with high-resolution, independent intelligence and reconnaissance.
  • Surface Fleet Evolution: While the newer Babur and Jinnah-class ships face some armament constraints, the focus remains on high-tech deterrence and stealthy cruise missiles like the Rasoob 250.

By balancing Chinese-derived technology with indigenous production, Pakistan is rapidly building a sophisticated, multi-layered defense network designed for the modern battlefield.
